Ezyas@Home has been participating in the ELDAC research project. What is ELDAC?

End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC)
ELDAC provides information, guidance, and resources to health professionals and aged care workers to support palliative care and advance care planning to improve the care of older Australians.

One of the objectives of our action plan was…

Support staff with access to education & training on advanced care planning & palliative care in the home, build the capacity & confidence of the staff and service. Integrate advanced care planning into routine care and shared responsibility of all staff

Links are provided to online and other types of resources to help you improve your knowledge, skills and confidence in providing palliative care and advance care planning. This will provide staff with access to education & training on advanced care planning & palliative care in the home.

There are two choices of training modules the First Choice is basic skills level.

The Second Choice more in depth and on completion you will receive a certificate.

1) Leading Age Services Australia (LASA)

LASA developed a resource called Making Choices for Life. The learning modules are intended to assist organisations and their aged care staff to develop skills to care for people with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness, or who are coming to the end of a normal ageing process, using a person-centred palliative approach.

This resource which comprises of four videos approx 10mins in length and four accompanying fact sheets (below) that can be used as visual aids and discussion points around the four themes within that unit. This is a basic resource for Personal Care workers who want to improve their knowledge in Palliative Care.

As ELDAC has a funding time-line we would hope this basic course could be completed by mid April:

2) The Guidelines for a Palliative Approach to Aged Care in the Community (COMPAC)

This Palliative Care educational resource is designed to support you to apply the Guidelines for a Palliative Approach to Aged Care in the Community to your practice. It includes the knowledge, skills and values that are required to communicate and contribute to the care of clients in the community who have a life limiting illness and or are approaching the final stages of the normal ageing process. This free online training is designed for the Australian health context, and is available to participants by simply creating an account and logging in.  https://www.pallcaretraining.com.au/

The package of online training has two groups of modules and supporting resources. Modules 1 – 4 are based on the best practice guidelines – Modules 5 & 6 are skill modules developed in response to feedback from participants who completed Modules 1-4. The modules offered are listed below and there is a downloadable factsheet (90kb pdf) for the palliative care training course.

As ELDAC has a funding time-line we would hope this course could be completed by the end of May:

This will be followed by a face to face session Q&A and reflections session with Sue Walker, also to include participants in the Reverse PEPA Training.
